About

Welcome to Pine Street School! Everything we do is about helping people achieve all that they can be. It is about believing in dreams and building the skills needed to achieve them. We engage, motivate and inspire by focusing on individual strengths, interests, real world activities, and building partnerships with our families. We ensure students have the skills for successful futures.

Introduction

The Pine Street community believes in a diversity of growth opportunities for each and every child through active, daily involvement in learning, both in the home and school.

Students also benefit from the gifts and talents of community volunteers who share their expertise to enrich the learning environment. Our staff and families demonstrate character, competence and compatibility in fostering the relationships that make learning possible and translate to success for students.

Motto

"A school of Dignity and Respect"

Mission

Our safe and caring school community is built upon meaningful relationships and is committed to providing quality learning opportunities where students achieve academic excellence as self-directed, life-long learners and develop into responsible global citizens.

Philosophy

We will act in a manner that models respect and responsibility and recognizes the inherent dignity and worth of all individuals. We will work to create confident, caring children through meaningful relationships that are founded upon a belief in empowerment and trust. We will utilize a variety of teaching strategies to enable all children to strive for personal excellence. We will work together as a professional learning community that builds upon a tradition of "best practices" so that all students can achieve high standards academically, socially and behaviorally. We will deal with students in a manner that promotes creative and critical thinking skills. We will share and celebrate student, staff and community accomplishments with pride. We will welcome students, parents and partners as active members of our learning community.

Beliefs

The family is a child's first and most influential teacher. The school works collaboratively with the home to support the growth of the whole child. All children can learn and experience success. Student's primary responsibility is for their own learning and respectful behavior. Children learn from peers, adults and members of the greater community. Knowledge, skills and attitudes are taught in relevant and meaningful ways.

Programs and Services

Differentiated instruction to meet the learning needs of all students.

Pine Street Elementary School offers early intervention programming through our Play and Learn at School (PALS) program. PALS programming supports children with assessed severe developmental delays from 3 to 5 years of age and children with assessed mild and/or moderate developmental delays from 4 to 5 years of age. PALS programs provide a natural preschool environment with the additional supports needed to ensure learning success.

The Connections Program is a system program designed to meet the needs of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Students with ASD may have difficulty with communication, social relationships, emotion regulation, or learning. Although some students with ASD achieve at grade level, many have uneven or delayed achievement.  Flexible and responsive instruction is guided by an Instructional Support Plan (ISP), and builds on individual strengths, interests, and needs.  The Connections program follows the Alberta Education Program of Studies, with adaptations and modifications as necessary. Students are supported through a positive structured classroom environment with predictable routines.
